Through the Looking Glass

This necklace has been quite a process for me. Starting with hand forming steel wire frames. Added an illustration and text from the first chapter and first page of the Lewis Carroll classic (one dollar used book).

It’s a love / hate relationship. Love the black and white illustrations…but the stories are filled with characters that made me very uneasy as a child. So this necklace needed to feel both vintage and dark for me. A bored Alice and Dinah are having a lovely chat on this page, but adventures await…

Materials: dark annealed steel, paper, Diamond Glaze, red velvet crystals, gunmetal chain and headpins and sari silk.

I’ve also made earrings with this same technique, using bits of lovely scrap book paper.
