Adding Perceived Value with a Story

I studied Pre-Columbian art history in college and fell in love with ancient Mayan designs. My favorite Mayan design is the Hunab Ku symbol.

Once I learned its history I found wearing it more powerful than just wearing a beautiful pendant. I wear it because its symbolic meaning brings peace and joy to my life.

When I shared the symbolic explanation of my pendant design in my Etsy listing it sold out! I discovered that others wanted to wear something that has a powerful story, as well as myself.

Ancient symbols have survived because of their story, not just because of their beauty. Celtic, Native American, Aztec and African folklore include symbolic designs that are beautiful in of themselves, but when you discover their cultural significance, the design becomes even more meaningful.

Try including a personal history, or symbolic meaning, in your online design descriptions, as it may increase the “perceived value” of your jewelry design in the eyes of your customers.
