Flame painted Hoops

Watched some flame painting artists on You Tube and loved the results.

So I tried it on a piece of copper and liked the colors, although I didn’t feel I had control of the colors.

Then I made some earrings out of the copper.

The copper does develop oxidation on the back and cannot be put in pickle because it will remove the color on the reverse.

It wasn’t difficult to remove with an abrasive, but I am going to try Osmacote on back before flaming next time.

This is sometimes used in enameling so that the oxidation just brushes off.

Gorgeous sunset colors, Elizabeth! I especially like the earrings in photo 3 – the contrast of the texturing on the rectangular pieces against the smooth round pieces.

Thank you, you are so encouraging!

Beautiful work! I have found that sealing with Protectaclear will keep the majority of the colors and seal the copper from further patina. That being said, anything you put on the copper will inhibit the light from reaching the metal and refracting true thus muting certain colors, most notable the blues which are my favorite colors.

I searched for Osmacote & only found Osmocote fertiliser products.
Where do you find the Osmacote you mentioned to retard firescale?

Nice work! I love copper flame painting…. will have to experiment with sealing the back to protect it from oxidation.

I shave used vintaj metal sealer after flaming and it works well.

What is OSMACOTE? The only thing I can find is Osmocote, some kind of plant for.

  • I Love the look & the pretty color👍🏼

    Gorgeous earrings!
I love working with copper but have never heard of Osmocote. ( I know Osmacote fertilizer !!)
What is it, where do you get it, & how is it used?
    Thanks 🙏
