A pair of beach themed air-dry clay jewelry bowls

Winter for us in the deep south this year has been extraordinarily cold, with two snowfalls already, one in excess of 6 inches.

For those of us who are not accustomed to coping with the extreme cold, it can be a little depressing.

I like to make all the ladies in my family a handcrafted gift each Christmas, so to lift their spirits, I thought a beach-themed jewelry holder would remind them of Summer and the beach.

The square bowl bases were purchased ceramic, while the round bowl bases were made with air-dry clay and stamped with beach text.

The water is tinted resin with sand, shells, driftwood, etc., and I added interesting large rocks with wire trees to hold their earrings.

One friend who loves mermaids got my first attempt at making a polymer clay mermaid in her bowl as a special surprise.

As you can see I was not brave enough to attempt a face for the mermaid, so instead I tried to make her look like she was exhausted after searching the sea floor for the pearl she found.
