Sweet promo – custom mints made for Tara Hutch Jewelry

I had a friend over who was helping me set up for a show recently, and she commented on my marketing techniques. (Which was nothing at the time.)

She used to help her sister set up wedding booths for trade shows way back before she was a realtor, and she had a great tip for me:

She told me to get a bit of candy, wrap it in a cellophane bag, and tie my business card to it with a bit of tulle. Thinking this was an EXCELLENT idea, I went a bit further…

I found a heart-shaped hole punch in my old metal clay supplies, and punched a hole in the corner of my business cards. I found a seller on Etsy.com who sold tulle by the spool, and I bought 2-25 yard spools of the hottest pink she had.

I ordered a 10 pound bag of jelly beans from Amazon.com and wrapped them up for my show. They were cute, but didn’t have the pizzaz I was looking for.

So, when I got home and was preparing for another show, I found another seller on Etsy who made handmade mints that she could personalize! These mints had rave reviews, so I thought I would try them.

I sent her an email asking if she could work with me, and this is the photo she sent me back:

She had already personalized some of the mints with my logo! They were SO adorable, how could I refuse?

So, I placed an order for 5 dozen, and I was amazed when they arrived. They were the cutest things I had ever seen. Tiny mints with my logo on them, mixed with hearts and gemstones.

On top of this, they were delicious, too! I ordered the butter mint flavor, but she probably has 20 different flavors on her website.

So, I wrapped them up just in time for my show:

. . . and they were the biggest hit!

Every single person I handed them too was amazed at how cute they were! I got comments like, “Aren’t you clever!” and “People will never forget who you are!” also “These are too cute to eat!”

That night, I had 67 hits on my blog, and I hadn’t posted anything in a couple of weeks.

The only thing I can attribute this too was those adorable candies!

XOXO

Sweet promo idea! :o)
by: Rena

Tara, thanks so much for sharing this fun, pretty, and very memorable idea for branding and a promotional gift to offer customers.

I don’t know which I love more – your adorable “TH” logo mints, or the charming little gemstone ones!

I’ve sometimes seen vendors with a candy dish in their booth, but this idea far surpasses that. And including your business card (plus the tag from the Say It So Sweetly mint-maker) along with each helping of candy makes it an even better promotion.

Very clever – everything from the custom mints to the way you packaged and branded them!

Awesome idea

What a neat idea, and thanks for sharing the etsy seller. I would have to say the hits were probably definitely from the show…awesome!

I love this idea, and thanks for the link to the Etsy seller!

I do a lot of outdoor summer shows…have you tested the mints in summer heat? Do they hold up and not melt?

Great Idea!

I loved the mints. I have been trying to find something to make my booth memorable. I am doing a local craft fair every first Saturday from April thru November. I need something to help me stand out. I am going to order mints for next month’s booth. Thank you for the great ideas.

Nope, They Don’t Melt.
by: Tara Hutchinson

This is actually why I chose these mints, because they wouldn’t fall apart after jumbling around before my show, and no melty chocolate mess! I contacted the owners and asked them if they would melt, and they told me no. They were right. The consistency reminds me of those butter mints your grandma had on her coffee table.. They melt in your mouth!

Hope this helps!

Tara – what a wonderful idea – I think that’s something for to contemplate for future outings with my own stall. I wonder if I can find something similar to those mints in the UK.

A Question
by: Sue

Please don’t throw rotten fruit at me (especially because I love, love, love the mint idea), but… do you eat little treats from strangers? I’ve thought about adding a little chocolate something to packages I ship to customers, but haven’t done it because I’m afraid that my customers would be wary of eating it/them. Am I just paranoid?

ADORABLE Idea!
by: Pam

LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! I wanna do this TOO! I just convo’d the mint ladies. I’m wondering if these are the “soft” or “hard” mints, and how long they’d keep fresh. It would be great to be able to get the little handout packets ready ahead of time – since it WILL take some time to do this, but yet not so far ahead that they’d get stale. Can’t wait to hear back – these are SO cute!! Thank you so much for sharing! (The sellers may be inundated after this!)

I would!
by: Tara Hutchinson

I would eat them! They are so cute, I might not eat them, too! Either way, they have my logo on them, so they are memorable and different. It doesn’t really matter, because if you put them in peoples hands, they will take them. I was treating mine like gold: presenting them with two hands; talking about them before I handed them over; I even had one lady take out her wallet and ask me how much they were! What they do with them once you get them into their hands is up to them. I guarantee you won’t find any in the trash!

XOXO

It didn’t take long at all!
by: Tara Hutchinson

Pam,

I did all 25 or so of mine in about 3 hours, by myself, in assembly line fashion. When the mints first arrived at my house they were kind of soft, as they had just been finished and had not had enough time to set yet. So, I had to leave them out, unwrapped for a few days. In the days while they were sitting out, I punched holes in my business cards and cut the tulle ribbon to length. Then I strung the ribbon through my cards and layed everything out. Once the mints hardened up, I only put 2 or 3 in a package (to keep them special), I included the card from the shop in the bag because they gave me such a good deal on the mints, and once I had all the packages filled, I tied them all with my ribbon. 3 hours max.

Hope this helps!

XOXO

I have one problem with this…………. I might eat them before they ever got to my customers, lol.

They look beautiful and I am happy they were a hit!
