Should I Have a Blog for My Jewelry Business?
by Lisa.

Do you think it is a bonus to have a blog as well as a website?
If yes, what should I write about, and how often should it be updated?
Also, how do you get people to visit a blog?
Thanks so much for your help, and as always, your great info.

To blog, or not to blog?
by: Rena
Hi Lisa,
A blog can be a great way to help you:
- get your online jewelry business noticed,
- build your following of customers, and
- network with other jewelry artists.
It can be a really excellent tool for your jewelry business – especially if you add a new post regularly at least twice a month.
However, it’s less effective for you if you go several months between posts. It’s hard to build a following on a blog that’s only posted on once or twice a year.
Also if you haven’t posted for a long time, people visiting your blog may think you’ve gone out of business.
If you think you’d enjoy posting on your blog at least a couple of times per month, you may want to give it a try.
In addition, there are some important insights about blogging for jewelry artists in Why I Buy from a Jewelry Blogger – which was written by a shopper who buys handmade jewelry online.
And if you really get into jewelry blogging, I have a ton of creative tips, strategies, and blog topics in my book, Jewelry Blogging Success Guide.
I hope this helps, Lisa!
Best of luck, and let us know what you decide!
Yes!

I would definitely say yes.
Blogs are a way to connect with a customer base, around the world or close to home.
Blogs help you flesh out ideas, and show the process behind the product.
Blogs can give you the expert status that you deserve because you are an artist and you make unique things.
Blogs are a way to meet and carry on conversations with other jewelry artists as well. My blog has been a blessing to me in that respect.
I would definitely do it. But be prepared as it takes time. I have had people tell me it takes too much time, and I always respond, are you too busy to talk to your customers? That usually starts them thinking…
But make sure you have a vision for your blog. My blog is about finding inspiration, and it comes through with my jewelry, but it was never meant to be a selling vehicle. When I am up and running on Etsy, etc I know that I will have gathered a strong fan base from my blog.
I have a goal to comment on a new blog every day. Usually unrelated to jewelry. Builds a following! And exposes me to many others who read my comments and come seeking what I might have to say.
I have come to treasure my blog, and especially the friends I have made.
I encourage you to jump right in!
Your Blog

Yes – definitely take the leap because its worth it. I’ve had one for several years now. At first I reviewed anything in fashion and design. Now I highlight my own work, but I do interviews for free on upcoming artists and designers as well. I also sell on Etsy and support Etsy sellers by buying their products for my own business. If you would like to be featured or get some ideas, contact me thru my blog at www.aridesigns.blogspot.com. Hope to hear from you!
I hear it helps

People tell me that a well written, frequently updated blog is a great way to drive business to your website. I wish I could say I have kept up with this, but alas, for someone with a big mouth, I seem not to have much to say on a blog! Mine is one of those with months between posts. Not a great way to show enthusiasm and interest!
A friend is in the midst of doing a great give-away to drive people and activity to her blog. It certainly seems to help. I know I signed up! I hear about people doing contests, drawings, etc. to give people a reason to visit your site/blog again and again. Articles, tutorials, advice columns, and similar freebies encourage people to save your site and use it as a reference, so they will revisit.
Give it a try. I guess I should go and figure out a topic to blog about!
