Here are a couple of simple but festive props for displaying or photographing holiday jewelry. I was pleased with my results and wanted to share them.

The backdrop I used for some of the shots was an inexpensive tree skirt (or snow blanket) available at craft and fabric stores. For other shots I used a mini brandy snifter to hang the earrings on and filled it with fake snow.

I also piled some extra snow around the glass to add to the bright, snowy look. These ideas could work well for shows or home parties as well. (You just might need to do a little extra vacuuming afterwards…)

  1. Thanks for sharing these clever ideas, Tamara! I especially love the glitter-sparkly snow blanket. It gives the feel of snow – but with an extra touch of Christmas magic. And it does look like the goblet is filled with freshly fallen snow. Good ideas for holiday themed jewelry photo shoots.

  2. What a great idea, using the snow blanket, glass and imitation snow as props; your pictures look very professional! I really like the earrings in the traditional colours.
I have only attempted a few photos after reading a tutorial on photography here, which was very helpful.

May I ask what sort of camera you used, or was it a mobile phone or something?

  3. Thank you for the compliments. I use an old Kodak digital, probably about 15 years old! It’s a very good camera and still delivers, but I suspect my iPhone would give me better results. I just haven’t had the time to play around with it.
