Initially I wanted to do an octopus that was hugging or was wrapped around a large round bead underneath, maybe a pearl.

However, the only “beads” I had with me at the time were these rhinestones in a chain. I decided that would do. So I changed the design around that.

Then, when it was time to add the eyes, I used a metal round light blue thing (usually used to decorate fabric). It looked like a zombie since it was too large, so I knew I needed to add the irises. To keep it in place, I made each iris with polymer clay and stuck it to the side. (It needed to make contact with more polymer clay to stay in place.)

Now my octopus looked like he was looking to the side while trying to escape, escape artists that they are, and hence the name was born!
