Gold Over Brass Jewelry Top Coat?

I purchased a beautiful pendant that is real gold plated over brass.

It’s unique, and I would like to prevent the gold from rubbing off over time. Is spray acrylic coating safe for gold?

Many items specify polished metals, but not specifically gold, and I would hate the ruin the piece by using the wrong product.
