What Can I Use for Shopping Baskets at Jewelry Parties?

by Kimberly.

iStock_fashion-jewelryI run a small jewelry business from home. When I have home jewelry parties I notice everyone is dangling necklaces on their arms and holding 3 to 4 bracelets in one hand. They just look uncomfortable.

What could I possibly use as a shopping tray or basket?

Shopping “baskets” for home party
by: Stephanie

There are several options, ranging from way cheap – seasonal paper bowls (stuff would slide off or plates) to way chic – little cloth-lined baskets, found at Pier One or Michaels or whatever.

Personally.. I have the wicker paper-plate holders, like my Mom used to use for picnics, and I have spray painted them and hot-glued a fabric liner in the bottom.

I’m planning to use thrift store baskets, using Easter baskets if I have a party around that time.

Bags With Handles
by: Bev

I have my take home bags by the door as they come in. I use lavender bags because that is sorta my business theme colors. I used to make inexpensive key chains that I would hook the key ring at the top of the bag that also held my business card. Now I have a business sticker on front of the bag. When they are done shoping they bring the bag to me. If things need boxes, I box them then add up the total with the taxes etc. Place everything in the bag and they are off and running having all of thier beautiful pieces with your business card already with them. You can change the color of bags to match the theme of your show or holidays. IE: Red for Christmas and Valentines Days etc. You have taken care of both the basket and bag at the same time.

You can also get inexpensive things at the .99 cents store.

How about restauant take out containers? I have seen these in seasonal colors at Hobby Lobby.

multi purpose containers

I use rectangular plastic bins from the dollar store that average 4″ x 6″. Then they double as storage containers when I put the jewelry away again.

Straw Trays
by: Janet

The Straw trays sound like a good idea. I hadn’t thought about the whole shopping experience for the customer. Thanks for the information. Good luck.

Small Organza Bags
by: Pat

I have been giving my party guests a small organza drawstring bag, containing my business card and a name tag, to place their own jewelry in while they shop and try on jewelry…people haven’t been so into the name tag, but they seem to like to loop the bag around their wrists as they browse! I suppose that this could hold their purchases instead!

Shopping baskets for parties

Hi Kimberly,
I use colorful woven plastic stacking baskets – 4×6.
They are just the right size for the customers to carry
around and sit on the table in front of them as they browse.

jewellery trays

What about jewellery trays with flock lined pad inserts. I usually have a couple with me at shows and place people’s items in there as they hand them to me.

Plastic storage baskets
by: JoAnne Green

I find that my customers enjoy having the small plastic basket to gather their treasures. Since I am in a booth in an antique mall and they have to carry their purchase to the front for purchase, I have attached one of my cards to the basket and place one inside. The person recording the purchase knows to add the card to the shopping bag with the sales ticket.
I am careful to cycle the older baskets to storage bin service when they begin to show any wear and tear.
There are so many color choices in these small baskets, which will also hold the tiny complimentary velvet earring bags and organza bags or gift boxes as well as the customer’s chosen treasures.
The “shopping baskets” also encourage more sales because the customer is not afraid of dropping her treasure as she continues shopping
