Here’s what I did to prevent shoplifting and to keep my jewelry neatly in my black display trays:
I purchased 1/4 – 1/2″ wide black stretchy headbands from the local drugstore (CVS carried them), and wrapped one widthwise around the tray insert, at the top of the tray insert.
To display my necklaces in these trays, I then took the smallest black electrical zip fasteners (available at Lowe’s or Home Depot) and used them to “zip” the toggle clasp of each necklace to the stretchy headband. Then I clipped the end of each zip fastener to make it flush with the tray.
I could then stand the tray on end and lean it against my display, or leave it lying flat on the tabletop, and the jewelry would stay in place.
Customers could still handle the jewelry but to try it on, I would need to remove the necklace by clipping it with my wirecutters.
I did the same thing for pendants but I put 3 – 4 headbands on each tray insert at even spaces. This allowed the pendants to stay put.

Good Idea for Deterring Theft
This is an interesting idea, Carol.
I’m sure all the black elements of your security features blend in with the tray and insert, camouflaging the security features. So your display continues to look very elegant.
Nice touch, and thanks so much for sharing your great idea!

Security for Displays
Without a picture, your description makes no sense to me. I have no clue what an electrical zip fastener is.
This article made me curious about how often things are stolen at a craft show (I’ve only done one so far).
Does this discourage
Does this discourage people from looking and trying on when they can’t just pick it up? It does sound nice and neat and fairly easy to do.
