Rivet Heart Pendant

Just thought I’d share this with you all. This is a brass and copper pendant I made a few weeks ago and was just taking the photos to add it to my little online shop, Hammered Hearts.

I always liked this one but it was really only when I was cropping the photos that I realized how much I really love it.

the hollow back

the hollow back

The pictures taken outside with the reflections from my garden give it, to my eye, an almost oil painting quality. To me copper and brass are so much more interesting than silver. When I came to photograph the back I realized that it nearly looks as good as the front in a different sort of way (it’s hollow backed).

It just still amazes me how cool copper and brass can look, with a simple design and a bit of hand hammered texture. I hope some of you like it too.

Love it, great work!

Question??
by: Lynda Carson

Beautiful work and I do have a question for you, please.
Did you coat the piece to protect the patina? If so, what did you use? It’s so shiny!

Thanks,
Lynda

Thanks for the positive comments, so nice to get some feedback.
Lynda,it’s only shiny because it’s just freshly polished.I use standard sisal and calico buffing wheels on a bench grinder to do the polishing and a standard solid buffing compound.I haven’t put any coating on it.I believe there are waxes you can use.I would also be interested to find a good one.
