Lichen Collection

The enamel obsession continues!

A while back I became enamored with enamel work and have continued to explore, experiment and play with different types of enamel work.

Lichen Studs

For my Lichen series I begin with a layer of opaque enamel, then apply a layer of crackle followed by another coat of opaque and then usually a transparent.

Between each coat they get fired in the kiln at 1500°.

Lichen Pendant

After grinding off all the excess glass and sanding the edges so they’re silky smooth they’re all ready to go.

I am working n a collaboration with Door 44 in Colorado to make some interesting bails for the pendants.

Beautiful colours and patterns Dianne, love the effect like Jasper gemstones!. Am on the verge of trying enamelling as love the individuality you can obtain, just seem to be so many options. What types of enamels do you suggest to start with please, I have been reading up a bit, but still not sure as have to be careful around strong smelling chemicals otherwise affects my eczema/breathing? I have a kiln. Many thanks.
