Bracelet Sizing, and Whether Hook Clasps are Secure Enough for a Bracelet?

I have made jewelry for several years, but still struggle with sizing.

I can (and do) make my own findings.

Is a hook clasp safe enough for a bracelet?

And what gauge wire should the extender chain be?

I am sending a surprise bracelet to my niece. Her mom said she has a “large” wrist.

Any suggestions?
