Turn a Raw Crystal Into a Pendant: How is it done?

I’m just starting my own handcraft business.  I love crystals and really want to turn them into pendants.

Is there a way to use metal?

I tried copper tape and solder but I feel like there must be a better way to achieve a gold or silver dipped look.
