Trying on Earrings: What Should the Rule Be?

What is the protocol for people who want to try on earrings at shows? Do you allow it?

Do you then wipe down the ear wires with alcohol? Is alcohol a safe cleaner for sterling silver and other materials? Are there state laws about whether people can try on earrings?

It seems to me that you can’t buy a pair of earrings for yourself without trying them on.
