Stone Stick Pendant Front

A lapidary friend was showing me some of his latest work and sheepishly held out a stone “stick” – he had just a sliver of slab left and for some reason just evened it up and polished it, making a beautiful highly polished pink marbled stone stick a little over 2″ long and 3/8″ square.

The trade name is Prairie Tanzanite, I believe it may be a pink rhyolite, but I’m not a stone expert. I just left it on my work bench for a while and soon it started “singing” to me. I worked with Argentium silver wire, amethyst beads and a single citrine briolette to accent the colors of the stone.

The bail is a woven wire enhancer that needs to be heat hardened before it is attached. The challenge was to soften the edges and hold the stone securely without overwhelming the stone or losing the unique shape.
