Patina on Raw Brass Stampings

by Nika van der Meer.

These pieces were made from raw brass stampings. I used two different solutions to get the different colors.

The rust color on the left is from cupric nitrate. After the color developed, I let it air dry and then used a small paintbrush to add the blue/green acetic acid (vinegar)/salt patina on top.

As the vinegar solution dried, I painted on more until I got the look I wanted. All pieces were sealed with two coats of sealer. This bonds the patina to the metal so it won’t flake off.
