Customer Care at Jewelry Parties

In creating one of my jewelry pieces, my goal is to create to a work of art that brings enjoyment whether it is worn or displayed.

Although I also participate in fine art and craft shows, many of my customers see and try my pieces at home jewelry parties.

It’s wonderful to see someone become excited about a special piece of jewelry.

The jewelry party setting is informal and relaxed, so people have an opportunity to try on a variety of pieces in a casual, friendly atmosphere.

I believe one reason my home parties are successful is because I’m genuinely interested in my customers as people. My monthly e-newsletter helps me to keep in touch with my customers. It informs them about upcoming parties and events such as sales and special promotions. In addition, with every purchase a customer receives a coupon for a discount on her next purchase. I’d like each of my customers to feel that they know me on a personal basis, hopefully as a friend.

I try to create a setting in which the customer feels totally comfortable with trying on pieces and combinations, and asking questions, I work together with my jewelry party hostess for the event to ensure that everything the customers will need is available: mirrors, good lighting, and lots of items displayed in a variety of colors.

I always provide a selection of small finger food items and beverages. The party lasts three to four hours, so everyone has time to shop and nobody feels rushed.

I have brochures available that explain how my home parties work. Each brochure contains a coupon for a discount on jewelry for anyone who wants to hold a party for me. I encourage attendees to take brochures for their friends and acquaintances.

In scheduling parties, I try to avoid doing too many parties in the same area with the same people. I have a customer list for people’s e-mail and other information so I can keep in touch with them.

I pride myself on customer service. I am always available to answer any and all questions. I talk about how my jewelry is made and I describe the materials I use. I believe that customers appreciate knowing I choose the best quality materials for all of my pieces.

Many of my pieces involve weaving and wrapping metal and fiber, and my customers often are interested in hearing about how each piece came about. In fact, I believe that a good story about your designs and your inspiration for your creations goes a long way in sparking customer interest and making a sale.

I make a point of greeting and chatting with everyone at the party, and I pay close attention to what the customer tells me. I occasionally eavesdrop (politely, of course) on conversations between customers. I often learn a lot from the conversations customers are having with each other about what they especially like and what else they’d like to see. This information may give me ideas for new items and new color combinations.

Here’s a final tip that has served me well at shows and jewelry home parties: Keep some choice pieces set aside and out of general view. If your customer seems interested in something very special, something beyond what is being displayed, you can always produce an especially spectacular piece to show her exclusively.
