How to Remove the Smell from Leather Cord?

by Para.

jmj-question-mark-teal-on-parchment-200x200-jI recently purchased leather 2mm cords for a DIY bracelet project. Initially the cord had a faint pleasing fragrance, but over a period of time with regular use it has faded and it now smells of cow/hide.

Although the smell is faint, and only hits when held close to the nose, nevertheless there is a smell which I don’t like. I thought maybe its to do with Indian leather and checked for Greek ones, but I found that they too have some hide smell, so guess its normal.

Hence my question:
1) How can I remove this smell? (even before making a bracelet)

2) Did the supplier give me inferior quality of leather? As I understand good leather should have some hide smell, but if so, how come some of the well known brands like Chan Luu doesn’t smell?

Thanks
Para
