Crossing Cultures with Kumihimo
by Julia Zimmerman, N. Stapley Designs.
(Minneapolis, MN)
In our rapidly growing world I try to bring the Japanese fifteenth century art of Kumihimo around the globe.
My goal is to mix as many cultures with Kumihimo as possible.
Here I’ve used influences from Africa, Greece (Mykonos cornflake beads), tagua nuts (South America) and a bit of the western US with lariats.
Luckily I still have a lot of world left to explore!
