Copper Viking Knit with Chasing & Repousse Pendant
by Kasia.
I’ve recently learned about chasing and repousse technique and decided to give it a try. And I loved it.

It takes time, and you need to anneal and re-anneal metal often to prevent cracks, but it’s very rewarding. It’s a very old technique, dating back to antiquity: for example, the Tutankhamun mask was made like this.

Whole necklace
In this technique a piece of metal is annealed, placed in pitch, and then outline of a pattern is hammered with use of various tools.
The metal is then taken out, cleaned, reheated, turned over and whole process starts again. For my necklace I chose copper. I made chain using viking knit and chainmaille techniques and finished it with handmade hook clasps.

This is how long it is when worn 🙂
I lightly oxidized the pendant and then polished it to create highlights.
