Making Jewelry with Aluminum Wire – Any Precautions?

Making Jewelry with Aluminum Wire - Any Precautions? - Discussion on Jewelry Making Journal

I am the mother (aka business manager amd adviser) of a young jewelry maker.

We have benefited tremendously from the information shared on this site. Thank you.

I have seen a few articles about possible adverse health effects of working with aluminium.

Have you any idea to what extent working with aluminium wire (including hammering and filing) would have adverse effects, if any?

Are there any precautions we need to take? Currently she uses a dusk mask.

I use aluminum wire when I make rings and bracelets, it gives a nice contrast to my copper wire. Both are easy to work with and nice to wear. I found this website, I hope it helps! Good luck with your jewellery 🙂

You have brought up a good point for my consideration. I have made a few items of aluminum and I enjoyed working with it. Never thought about possible toxicity. I know that deodoants with aluminum do cause issues for some people. This is something to look into for me also. Thank you.
