Eye of the Storm

It’s hurricane season here on the Gulf Coast and LOTS of weather across the country so I wanted to do a series of weather themed pieces; this is the first of them.

I started with the center spiral of black coated copper wire, added silver wire mesh and a rhinestone at the “eye”… just like looking at a real hurricane on radar. The counter-clock wise spiral around the eye with wind and rain bands swirling around it.

It connects with various size, shape and textured chain punctuated with black, 3-D inverted triangles to symbolize the spin-off tornadoes. There’s rain, rain and more dark rain during and on both sides of the storm – it is shown here as black chain “falls” out of silver cones.
