Closing My Jewelry Business: Anyone Else Experience This?

jmj-question-mark-maroon-on-blue-sky-green-leaves-200x200-jHi All. I just wondered if any of you have experienced the things I have in operating a jewelry business. What started off as a fun hobby turned into a mess when I began treating it like a business.

Materials prices keep going up, my prices have to go up to include all of the accouterments of business like packaging, business cards, tax expenses, etc. and most people want to compare the price of a one-of-a-kind piece with something they can get a Target.

Once all of that happened, it no longer became fun. I tried to compartmentalize the business aspect from the creative aspect, but found it nearly impossible to do so. I would create something beautiful only to find that people thought the price was too high. (I was barely charging for labor!)

Anyway, I am closing the doors on my business and will go back to doing it for fun and gifts. This has not been a good experience for me.

Anyone else run into this?

Also, best of luck to all of you who continue, but make sure you are actually making money on your items and being paid what you are worth.
