Black Rose and Turquoise Feather Set

The inspiration for this necklace and ring set was the howlite pendant base. I received it in a large bag of jewellery making supplies that my friend so generously passed on to me recently.
I was having a phone conversation one afternoon, and my eyes fell on this pendant. While I was still talking on the phone, I got it out of the bag and considered it (who says artists can’t multi-task? :D).
It struck me that my black roses, which I had recently combined with turquoise howlite in another necklace, would work well with this as well, and would make more of a collection. So, still conversing, I got my roses and other supplies, and basically laid out and started to work this design.
I included black netting to cover some of the silver metal, round howlite beads, crystals, and black cut seed beads on memory wire, along with my embellished black lacy roses. But the finishing touch came when I placed a bright turquoise feather behind the necklace, and bits of feather coming out of the top of the pendant.
All of a sudden the necklace just popped into full colour, and exuded the softness and femininity I look to convey in my pieces.
I had one more large black rose out, so decided on making a matching ring to go with it.
Even though I was actually in the middle of doing a different collection of jewellery when this creation happened, I’m glad this little side detour, while I was having a nice phone conversation, took me here. 🙂
