911 Commemorative Jewelry – A Wing And A Prayer Necklace
by Maryanne Murphy.
(Atlanta, Ga)
This isn’t so much about the piece of jewelry, but why it was created.
We are in the hot August dog days of summer. School has started here in Georgia and Labor day is just around the corner. There’s something else that’s just over the hill too. Something that 10 years ago changed my families lives and thousands of others in ways we never would have expected.
September 11, 2001.
I’ve created 4 pieces of special jewelry in memory of all the lives that were lost and effected by the tragedy of that day.
A quiet memory of lives lost and changed, of hero’s not expecting to be made, and a Nation unified in the presence of unspeakable horror.
These are my personal expression of healing. Something to hold onto, something to remember, because we should never forget, and I’m honored and proud to be an American.
These are just very simple necklaces embodying deep, profound personal meaning.
Glass heart beads in red, white and blue are individually hand-wired and attached to four different symbols. A five point star, a single angel wing, a double angel wing and an open heart.
The necklaces are 19″ long and closes with a lobster claw clasp.

I love our country too. It soothed my heart to see your red, white, and blue hearted jewelry. What a great idea! You are so correct….
we should never, ever forget!

I love your idea so much that I too want to do something to commemorate that day. Our country will never be the same again and it should never be forgotten.
Remember 9/11
by: Maryanne Murphy
Thank you for your comment. I’m so happy to be of inspiration.
I’ve seen it mentioned that 9/11 should be a holiday. Somehow having a day off because of these peoples deaths just doesn’t seem right to me.
Everything in our Country isn’t perfect, and someone is always complaining about something.
But I believe that sometimes we should just shut up and be grateful for what we do have.
I think that’s what we should do on 9/11. Shut up, be grateful, do a good deed, and wear red, white & blue.
A wonderful tribute

Yes, we do need to continue to remember 9-11. I’m sure we all remember where we were that day. As a decorative painter (as well as jewelry maker) I painted pins with a flag and ribbon over it with “never forget 9/11/2001”. I sold them for $5 each and donated all the money to the Red Cross. Your necklace is a great tribute.
