Wind Chime Earrings

by Tamara Summers.

For the past few years I’ve had a small, inexpensive stainless steel wind chime hanging in my apple tree. This year, the string holding the parts together disintegrated, and I found it lying on the ground. My first inclination was to throw it away, but then I looked at the spiralled pieces of metal. They were very light in weight, and still attractive. I decided to see if they would work as earrings.

I had some metal loops that were like memory wire, and they worked to attach the spirals to the earwires with an informal look that matched the style of the earrings.

I wanted to add a little colour, so for one of the pairs I added turquoise howlite beads at the top, and a little turquoise bow. For the other set, I added coral-coloured shell beads.

These earrings are long, grazing the top of the shoulder at almost 4 ½” long, but are light to wear.

A bonus is that when you’re not wearing them, if you hang them somewhere near an open window or vent, you still get to enjoy a pretty little chime!
