Why, Oh Why Do I Need a Hammer?

Hi! I am pretty new to the wire working side of jewelry making although I have been making various beaded items for several years now.

My question is on wire working and the need for supplies. What are my main basics?

I wanted to begin working on some wired pieces including ear wires and rings, but every time I attempt to make these items, they lose their shape.

I assume that is what the “hammer” is for. I have had no training at all (formal anyway) and would appreciate any areas to cover and/or look towards.

Advice please?
