Whole Lotta Pearls!
by Kathleen Waltrip.
(Carpinteria, California USA)
Like many followers here I had a lifestyle change. An injury got me off my feet and I was worried that I couldn’t be effective at my job.
Out came the beads, I ran out for a business license and hoped that my pieces would sell.
It’s now been 10 years and sales keep getting better and better.
I have a very loyal following and make new friends/clients at every show I do.
Most of my pieces are large and quite bulky – not for everyone.
I learned fast that it was a lose/lose proposition to try to do that.
This piece was a lot of fun to make.
It uses fun misshapen pearls from my favorite California dealer: Wendy Masterson at East West Best Trading Co., small vintage aurora borealis lavender colored accents and complementary seed beads for filler.
The shape reminds me of pumpkin seeds and the color is a burnished copper with a rosy pink patina.
I have several other pieces at my site.

WOW!
by: Rena
That is one stunning necklace, Kathleen! Absolutely gorgeous.
You’re so right about how making jewelry for “everyone” doesn’t work. It’s much more effective to make jewelry a specific group of people will love and obsess on – as your fans surely do!
I’m certain that gals who love big, dramatic, statement jewelry absolutely love you and your work. I saw lots of other bold, incredible pieces on your website – your work is fantastic!
Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Wow is Right!!!

This is really something! “Whole Lotta Pearls” in an understatement! Gorgeous – I wish I could pull something like this off – it’s so striking!
Love the colors!
Yes really – Wow!

I love that! Not for everyone as you say (wish I could wear something so dramatic!) but beautiful.
I took a peek at your website; you have some lovely lovely things. I like pearls with other stones very much and really like what you do.
Keep up the good work!

Yes they are big!

One thing I’ve learned with big pieces. You have to make sure that the weight/length ratio is good. When you have a good fit, you don’t feel the weight. After I design I wear it around to make sure. I’m amazed when a small petite person wears my pieces—it’s all in the attitude!
You Have It!

Your pieces are absolutely gorgeous. I am just beginning to venture into making some bigger pieces and your designs are inspirational. In looking at your website, I can’t decide which of your beautiful pieces I like the best…I think they are all works of art. I am sure your clients can’t wait for the next new design. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
One Stunning Necklace
by: Tasha
This certainly is one stunning necklace Kathleen!
It’s funny sometimes, the direction that Life takes us in. Injury has played a big part in my jewellery journey as well.
I’m so glad that your journey has been successful for you.
Cheers,
Tasha
