White Beach Glass and Rose Quartz Jewellery

Recently I decided it was time to reorganize my “beach finds” as I had outgrown the container I had been tossing them into after my walks. When I did, I realized that I have a LOT of stuff! I told myself “No more collecting until you start to make some pieces with what you have!”

White Beach Glass and Rose Quartz Necklace with Lace
The beach has just started to become snow-covered, so it’s a good time for this project seeing that the little beauties are hibernating for the winter. But I know that a few months from now, it will be a sad day if I can’t pick up any more beach glass, pottery, shells, skippers, stones, driftwood, beach metal, seagull feathers……
So, I sat down with my beach glass container, the colours all sorted nicely now. I played around a bit, and finally became inspired when I realized that bits of lace look beautiful on the frosty glass, and it’s a neat way to make a bale when it’s stiffened a bit. So I took some white lace and some of my white glass, and went to work, cutting pieces of the cotton lace to pair up with the glass shapes. It was so much fun! The white glass is so reminiscent of ice that it’s a perfect project for winter.

Once I got my pendants and charms made, I had to decide what to do with them. A lot of things took away from the look of the pretty glass, and I didn’t want that. Finally, when I held up some rose quartz beads to them, I saw harmony. The milky translucence of the beads, even though they are polished, matched nicely. I also used pink ombre glass beads. Because the rose quartz beads are substantial, I decided to use 3 pendant-size dangles and 2 charm-size ones, rather than just one pendant. I added soft pink pearl centres to the lace flowers.

I hadn’t planned on doing any wire-wrapping, but I have a big bag of florist wire wrapped in many shades of cotton thread, and when I saw the pale pink wire, I really wanted to add just a bit of free-form wrapping to bring the colour of the beads down into the pendants. It started to look to me like a trellis for the flowers to grow on. I added a couple more leaves over top of the wire, so that it wouldn’t look like the little flowers were behind bars, especially since they assured me that they had done nothing worthy of incarceration! 🙂

White Beach glass and Pink Bead Bracelet
I also made a bracelet with a bead soup of soft pink beads, including some in rose quartz. I used one of my charm-sized pieces of white glass as a dangle.
It’s a start! 🙂
