Victorian-Style Origami Drop Earrings

There was a while where I was making a lot of these little paper beads.

I loved this print, but it looks different when made up as earrings.

I loved this print, but it looks different when made up as earrings.

I just love the shape—like a little Victorian-style lampshade, I think!—and it works so well with many different styles of paper.

The problem with making little tiny beads from print origami paper is that you never know how the print will look all folded up. For instance, this print has lots of flowers on it, but you can’t see the flowers in the final bead, just the beautiful gold edging and the rich colors.

Origami paper beads make beautiful and lightweight earrings.

To continue along a Victorian theme, I used antique-style bead caps to top them.

Anyway, the finished earrings reminded me of richly colored Turkish carpets—more specifically, the one we have in our living room!

I’ve since sold all the earrings I made using this style of bead, but somehow I could never bring myself to sell these particular ones. I guess I meant them for myself all along.

They are my go-to earrings when I want something just a little dressy, and they go great against dark hair.
