To Stash or Not to Stash

I have a decent supply of jewelry making materials but there never seems to be enough.

Many times I will start a project and not have the right color/size bead I need. Finding what I want online is time consuming and tedious, and not always inexpensive.

I see other jewelry that uses such beautiful and varied components. Do other designers just have a bigger stash than I do?

Do they buy all the components after they have decided on the design?

How do you design with components you haven’t seen? Any help here would be appreciated.
