SweetLife Recycled Paper Lariat Necklace
I normally work in fine handmade Japanese washi paper exclusively, but I live in Eugene, Oregon, which is blessed to have a fantastic artist materials exchange center (MECCA – Materials Exchange Center for the Creative Arts).
A quick note about MECCA: Anyone can donate their old ‘materials’ (loosely defined) and anyone can come take them home for a donation of a couple bucks.
In an artsy town like Eugene, you can’t believe the high quality stuff that gets donated there!
Anyway, I was looking around their huge paper section, and found pieces of old paper twist rope. It was in beautiful colors and had a lovely crinkled texture. I bought the entire box!
SweetLife is the result.
I found a way to sculpt the paper twist into beautiful organic flowery shapes, and strung them on vegan pleather crinkly cord.
I’m working on earrings and rings to match.
I love this, and it made it to the front page of Etsy!

Loved hearing how you found an offbeat material, and coaxed beautiful flowers out of it! The vegan pleather makes a lovely vine.
Congrats on making Etsy’s front page with this unique necklace!

Your necklace is so pretty! I’m a sucker for anything made with paper & in awe of paper artists.
