Run the Gauntlet

Bronze rings combined with black EPDM (rubber) rings make a comfortably flexible gauntlet

I started playing around with making chainmaille recently, and made a few wider cuffs using aluminium rings with EPDM (rubber) rings.

The EPDM rings are elastic, which enables the cuff to be pulled over the hand with no need for a fastener. They are pretty, chunky cuffs, because I used 14ga wire rings.

However, I wanted to make a finer, but longer cuff.

So I purchased smaller gauge bronze rings with matching black EPDM rings and, using the European 4-in-1 weave, made this piece.

Even though it is long, it still stretches over the hand so there is no fastener.

It is not as loose as it appears on the model hand, but fits comfortably on the average wrist and remains in shape.

I think it might appeal to those who like medieval costumes.

Gorgeous Gauntlets!
by: Rena

Wow! This is such a cool project, Melody! How long does it take you to make one of these (not counting the extra “figuring it out” time involved in making the first one)?

These are just stunning, and I can well imagine a great demand for them. Thanks so much for sharing them here!

Great Work!

Wonderful job on the gauntlets! I’ve done a few small bracelets like this but never anything so long. I know if I show these to my sons they will want some too. They’ve been talking about creating long gaunlets like this.

Wonderful
