Memories of Grandma

I am the youngest of four girls and when we were growing up, my Grandmother was always making items for our “Hope Chest”. Over the years she made us tatted tablecloths and tatted trim for tea towels and pillow case covers.

DShuman: Memories of Grandma 1I have a Rubbermaid tub filled with her wonderful creations, but since nobody uses tea towels or sews trim on their pillow cases anymore, they have remained in the tub for 35 years.

A couple of months ago I saw an Oglala lace necklace made with tiny seed beads and it reminded me of the tatting I have lovingly stored away. So for my sisters birthdays, I decided to make something that they could use and enjoy and that would be a tribute to our Grandmother.

I took her tatted pillow case edges and strung them with pears to create the necklaces pictured.
