Hidden But There Pendant

I have lately been researching the history of beads via the book, THE HISTORY OF BEADS From 30,000 B.C. to the Present by Lois Sherr Dubin. It is an incredible book that contains a 8 page foldout in the back. The foldout is a timeline of beads and which cultures they are associated with. This is absolutely incredible to take in.
This piece is inspired by the talisman, prayer and love letter beads from different parts of the world. I liked the idea of a hidden message bead from Africa. I am intrigued by the prayer and talisman beads from Tibet and Mongolia.
So the general shape is inspired by the gahu or prayer beads of Tibet and the tru tru from Mongolia which contain the power of a talisman in the gems that they are made of.
My pendant carries moonstones inside as both talisman and a sort of love letter in that they represent the moon and moonlight, the tides and the ebb and flow of life. The moonstones puff up the pendant and add weight to this fairly light necklace.
This is a one of a kind necklace.

Great story behind this one of a kind necklace. It looks heavy but not in a bad way.

Another beautiful piece…love the triangles.
Hidden But There

I love how the various world influences combine in this one piece.
I also think the gold + intense blue color scheme is really effective, and so is the contrast between the larger necklace beads and the tiny seed beads.
To me this could be a museum piece – many interesting things are converging here, and they come together beautifully.
Thank you for sharing more of your incredible artistry with us, Diana!
An Attractive Piece

This is an extremely attractive piece. The blue and gold are striking, and the hidden moonstones add a subtle aspect to the piece.
The composition is also excellent. The different shapes add interest and draw the eye to the necklace.
Well done!

Thanks so much for your comments Gail.
It’s always such a great feeling to find out that someone likes a piece I made!
I couldn’t believe it when those little square bead caps that I thought I would never find a place for fit the middle of the diamonds like they were made just for them.
So it goes….never throw anything away:))
