Contrasting Elements

I love to play with themes of contrasting elements in my creations, so a challenge about old and new seems fitting for a first post here on JMJ.

It hangs asymmetrically due to the varying weights of the gears.

This necklace combines copper and brass gears of different sizes with short wire-wrapped sequences of glass pearl style beads in natural colors. I connected varying lengths of copper chain in between these pieces and used findings in copper, brass, and bronze colored wire for a mixed metals industrial sort of look.

The 16-inch necklace hangs asymmetrically in a modern off-center way. I enjoy the contrast it strikes between the organic shapes of the beads and the modern machine-like shapes of the gears.

I even think the copper and brass metals bring out some similar color sheens in the cream and sand toned beads, bringing the new and old, man made and natural elements together. Hope you enjoy it!
