Black Rose Rock Garden Necklace and Earring Set

The inspiration for this jewellery set was the turquoise howlite chunk beads.

Black Rose Rock Garden Necklace

I’ve had them for quite some time, and actually had made them up into a necklace with black mirror beads (to bring out the black veins in the howlite) and interestingly shaped silver beads.

It was a very cool looking necklace, and elegant, but I decided it just didn’t quite represent my style well enough at this point.

Not enough colour and joy. So I took it apart and set out to see what I could combine them with that was more me at this stage.

I felt I hit it right on when I held them next to these vintage apple green glass pearls and smaller green stone bead. I loved the colour combination!

I still wanted to add a bit of black to highlight the veining and decided on black cut seed beads, and a bit of silver in the form of bead caps, a long flowered tube bead, and a silver flower toggle clasp.

The necklace looked very nice at that point, but I still wanted to add that extra detail that would make it truly special, and in the end found that I could add a few black lacy roses on the howlite beads.

Black Rose Rock Garden Earrings

Immediately the necklace started taking on a rock garden type of look, which I loved! I played that up a little more, added a little black bow, made a coordinating pair of earrings, and my black rose rock garden was planted! 🙂
