Antique Beadwork

by Jenna.

My mother-in-law has asked me to do something with some jewelry that belonged to her mother. It used be a necklace made entirely of beadwork.

I want to connect the two ends of the pieces like this to make a pendant

The string has broken on it and is still very fragile. That being the case, i have decided to turn it into a sort of pendant that is reinforced, somehow, on the back side. (photo 2)

I have no clue how to go about this. I was thinking of maybe gluing felt to the back of it, but I’m concerned that it may cheapen the look of it. Do any of you have any suggestions?

What sort of glue should I use? How can I secure the ends to prevent the beadwork from becoming further undone? I tried to knot the ends, but the string just breaks everytime.

I would be grateful for any ideas of advice. Thank you!
