Santa Barbara Zoo Zoo Bottle Necklace

A few months ago I purchased a large quantity of very small glass bottles from our local Art From Scrap store. ( I believe they may have been donated room a medical supply company.)

From another local shop that sales an assortment of items purchased from abandoned storage lockers, Random, I had found about 50 pieces of brass filigree which I played around with and found I could fit them to the tops of the bottles.
Inside the bottles, I’ve used old map pieces. This one has pieces of map from the Santa Barbara zoo. (Most of my other bottles have pieces of maps from locations such as Zion National Park, Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Park, or cities like San Francisco, Monterey, and Santa Barbara, my hometown.)

Some of the map pieces I use I distress, or color with alcohol inks, and some I embellish by gluing a tiny rhinestone to the point of interest.
This Santa Barbara Zoo necklace is on a 16″ long brass chain. Inside the bottle is a dangling brass heart, two rolled map pieces: one with a giraffe beside a palm tree, the other piece says Santa Barbara.
There are also two pieces of etched and rolled copper inside: a hummingbird, and a flower. On top of the bottle, connecting the chain to the bottle, I’ve placed a single red-orange Swarovski crystal to pick up the light and mirror some color from a tiny piece of the map.
