2″ x 1 5/8″ and vibrating with color; my Ausralian Boulder Opal pendant

I had been contemplating this gonzo piece of Australian opal in ironstone for about a year; how to showcase the amazing colors and fire, without frou-frou-ing it up?

Handhammered bail and hook completes my design

I had bought it from Janice Everet; Aussie opal miner, cutter, and finisher from Queensland.

Designing a piece of jewelry around a gem involves a great deal of ‘productive’ procrastination – at least that’s MY method!

Bold and beautiful on any neck

Well, finally, here it is: I made a 14kt goldfilled bail to mimic the bumpy surface of the opal (and the elongated gold chain links), and secured the chain with a hook link that can fasten anywhere along the 22″ length.

I think the straight forward design has a unisex vibe. What do you think?
