What’s Cooking in Sala Faruq’s Kitchen?

I have wanted to create this jewelry display, “What’s Cooking in Sala Faruq’s Kitchen?,” for at least two years after being inspired by a book on window displays. However, the opportunity never seemed to present itself until this year at the 71st Annual North Carolina Gourd Arts & Crafts Festival.

Jewelry display design by Sala Faruq.
One of the gourd competition categories was Fine Art Display. I entered my display and received a 1st Place ribbon.
The project took about three months to complete. Most of the components came from a local thrift store. I would visit weekly and sometimes I would find what I was looking for and sometimes not. The wall prop was a shelving unit.
I attached a board to the back, painted it and added the small shelve and hooks. I wrote the Menu Review copy and attached it to the wall as well. The jewelry labels were designed to resemble recipe cards. The title sign I had enlarged at a print and copy store.
Then, I decoupaged it onto the wall unit. I used a slightly metallic fabric in each of the dishes and cake stand to give height to my jewelry pieces and an overall sense of richness. The numbers correspond to the recipe cards.
