Spring Green CD Jewelry

For a long time I admired the color variations found in a CD or a DVD when you move it in the light, even just slightly.

I thought to myself there must be a creative way to use them. At the time I was learning to make jewelry and I began to search the internet for ideas.

Most of what I found just didn’t have the “finished look” I had hoped for. It all just looked like cut up pieces of CD or DVD to me. Over a period of time I continued the search until I came across an idea that inspired me to begin a progression of experiments in processing the CD’s and DVD’s.

It’s been an interesting evolution from the beginnings to the current process I now use in preparing the CD’s and DVD’s for my jewelry and one that is not yet complete, I’m sure. I look forward to seeing where this creative adventure will take me!

I find great enjoyment in working with the existing colors in the media and even changing the colors, as part of the process, to meet the needs of the piece I’m crafting.

I do this through a proprietary heat and dying process. This particular piece was created using a CD that was already this beautiful Kelly green color.

I was drawn to it because it makes me think of spring when everything is just beginning. Using the CD and brass bezel wire I created this pair of earrings and pendant.
