Necklace with Copper & Cold Enamel
by Kasia.
I love medieval jewellery (especially early medieval). However, before I’ve started to work with metal, I didn’t really think I can successfully convey it in my pieces (though I’ve made several attempts in polymer clay).
This necklace is the result of my fascination with that period: it was inspired by the early medieval Slavic jewellery. Slavic jewellery often features rings and dots(which represent stars), so I wanted to incorporate that in my piece.
I’ve made the whole necklace entirely by hand. The chain alone took 4 hours. I knew right when I started working on the pendant that I wanted to add enamel to it, and decided to add a bit of colour to the chain as well with carnelian beads.
I’ve oxidized the pendant and the chain to deep grey, and then polished them to create highlights.
I love the end result and I’ve had great fun working on it!
