Inspiration for a New Collection

Lariat Bell Necklace

Fun with Jingly Bells, one of a collection of 4 each slightly different.

A few weeks ago, I was approached by a customer who had a very specific idea of a special and meaningful necklace she and her husband wanted me to make for their anniversary. Until this client asked, I had never really considered the lariat style of necklace to be something that would fit well into my niche market.

But the way she described what she was hoping I might be able to create while still keeping to my own design aesthetic, made my brain spin off all sorts of possibilities.

Custom Lariat Necklace

My client’s finished piece.

I first started off by making a couple of the first ideas that came up. I wanted to learn how to properly balance the lariat style so that it wouldn’t be constantly sliding. I had visions of the dangle pulling the loop into a choke chain instead of a fluid moveable yet fairly stable necklace design.

After I had the mechanics worked out, I began work on her special piece. When I showed her the resulting finished piece, her first reaction was to cry because I’d managed to capture her ideas and mingle them with my own vision.

Chrome Diopside Lariat

The second one. It sold almost instantly.

Because of the client’s request, I not only made and sold the commissioned piece but I created 6 other lariats in different styles, two of which sold from my ETSY shop before I’d even finished the commission.

I would enjoy hearing your stories about how a customer inspired you.

Lariat Slave Collar

The first completed Lariat inspired by my client. This one sold about a week after I listed it.
