Colors of Spring Seed Bead Necklace

It’s funny how a piece of jewellery evolves and comes to be. Take my Colors of Spring necklace for example.

I’ve been making jewellery for a few years, but lately I’ve developed a real passion for weaving. I’ve taught myself some pretty cool techniques (often with the help of some good tutorials). This Spring I decided to learn how to do a daisychain stitch. I make a few chains using some blue and green seed beads that I had left over from other projects, and really liked how they looked.

Instead of disassembling them once I learned the technique (as I often do), I decided they’d make a very cool necklace…but they needed something…. The top half of the necklace didn’t look right with a daisychain and it seemed to require something a bit more substantial, so I decided to try another of my recently learned techniques…spiral weave. Loved it…and used up every last one of my spare seed beads 🙂

It still didn’t feel quite right though. So I searched through my stash again. Then I found it!!! That missing finishing touch….the beautiful turquoise discs. They were the perfect foil for all the pastel sweetness. They have the lime and the blues so they’re complementary, but they also have some darker grounding colors. I then made a simple string of round turquoise beads, and added it to the bottom of the necklace to give it just a bit more “weight” and it felt “done” finally!!! I love it.
