I am trying to write descriptions for vintage-inspired jewelry and words “pleasing, graceful, shapely, lustrous…” are those I’m looking for.
Do you have any descriptions for Indian jewellery?

I love that you gave so many examples. Do you have another post somewhere with more synonyms and engaging words? That part of this piece was more informative than all the other stuff I’ve stuffed into my brain about “engaging copy.” Thank you so much!

When I get into it it can actually be fun. I am glad that I have found your site. Another perk of belonging to the the Flourish group.

Hi Sophia, if the dictionary and thesaurus weren’t helpful in defining the essence of these words, why not base it on what those words make you feel?

For example, when would you say “elegant” instead of “beautiful” when talking about a piece of someone else’s jewelry?

I suggest that you go to Pinterest and look at jewelry photos. Practice coming up with one word to describe each piece of jewelry. Then notice what seemed “elegant”, “chic”, “lovely”, etc. to you, if you used those words. If you didn’t use those words, then jot down the words you did use. You may discover that “elegant”, “pretty”, etc. aren’t words you use when you talk about jewelry.

Or “chic” to “lovely” etc..? I have gone through the dictionary as well as the thesaurus and not sure as to what defines each. Any help would be appreciated.

However, this article has great reminders of how to bring life to our pieces through the perfect choice of words. I forever use my thesaurus, but the words you’ve shown as examples here will really help me expand the imagery of my designs. I will for sure be marking this page as a favorite and I guarantee I will be referencing it often!
Thank you SOOOO much!!!
