Thank you!

I completely agree with you…I did a special request, (a complex piece) in copper as a prototype, because I didn’t want to waste fine silver and 14K gold filled wire. I sent the photo to the client, and she loved it so much she said forget it; I’ll take the copper patina…really was appreciative of that! Thank you also Chari…your very nice comment is so generous and kind!!!

I especially enjoy the squiggly frame on the leopardskin jasper piece!

I have done some private request and I know it is hard to upfront the cost before the delivery. I had a wire wrap a customer pendant stone that was 10mm on the side and she wanted 14 karat gold. I ended up using 6 wires of 18 gauge gold wire and one twisted 22 gauge on the side but it came out wonderful. I am now learning wire weaving to add to my wire wrapping. I love copper but people are still program to silver and gold. I now request the product wire cost up front and the rest on delivery. Keep up the great work Daryl , you got talent and a style of your own!

Also, thank you Linda Barton for your nice compliment…it does take alot of time/wire depending on the piece. Right now I figure I’m making around $10/hr if that after everything considered. However, I enjoy it so much and am gradually building a following. Everyone has to start somewhere and pay their dues so to speak…hopefully the future will be a bright one…no harm in trying! As a tip, which I’ve learned from this wonderful website and a few others, tutorials and art shows will garner better profits. Just went to the Fort Worth Art Festival, and there was only one in the jewelry category who did some wire-wrapping. This is a wide open market. Best of wishes in your success as well!!!

I have just begun to wire weave and know your pieces must have taken many hours and lot and lots of wire! Continued success.

I appreciate your very kind comment! You are so right…it’s quite the challenge to not cover up too much of the stone, yet still have a nice wire-wrap design. I’m still learning and have had some definite missteps; however, I think that’s the beauty of handmade work! Thanks again and also for providing this beautiful & highly informational website…I’ve read several articles that have been highly beneficial to me 🙂

I especially like how you framed the chrysocolla in cuprite with your wirework. It’s a fun challenge to create a wire setting that doesn’t cover up any of the best parts of the stone!

It is challenging to do commissions because of exactly what you said…it’s hard to determine ahead of time what the cost should be or if something goes wrong and extra wire is needed etc. In copper, it isn’t that much of an issue. However in fine silver and 14K gold-filled, it can be a very expensive risk. So far so good, but I’m definitely more comfortable with copper.

I haven’t had commissions for my jewelry, but have had in some other areas. It’s a struggle for me to be upfront about time and costs which would be incurred to manage the project. Hopefully I will get better at that with time.
