I have designed necklaces/pendants for years and this is my first year doing the art shows. Every single time I read your thoughts and the sharing by all I come away with a new idea, thought or encouragement. Thank you so much!

I am excited about all ideas shared. I prefer shorter necklaces, but I can see that not everyone can wear them. So, for show coming up, I will create 36 inches-42. This will give the person the opportunity to double up if necessary.
Thank you for all suggestions.

I have also learned recently that longer is better for some customers. I taught a class recently. I precut all of the chain to 22 inches as the dangles on the necklaces made the total length 25 inches. Some cut there chains shorter, some left the the precut length and some added length to make it 30 inches. It was a real eye opener for me!

I like to wear bunches of bracelets so it will be fun to wrap a longer necklace around my wrist. I’m new to jewelry making and love all the tips and ideas!

It’s true you can wear it as a bracelet wrapping around your wrist or just wear it long as a necklace. It indeed gives some length and I like it too.

It really changes the look of the design when wrapped around your wrist or a necklace. I should really try and make them longer to fit in with todays trend.

I find that my best bracelet/necklaces come from watching TV while beading. What I watch tends to flavor my designs.

Being old school, I was wearing matching necklace, earrings and bracelets that match or has some kind of commonality. I noticed that this is not always the case anymore.

I really like the fact that people are wearing jewelry as a means of individual expression and style, which makes it fun for a jewelry designer/maker/stylist. I also like the longer necklaces since I feel they make me feel a sense of freedom, style and empowerment. Believe it or not it gives me a sense of confidence and comfort. Of course, I wouldn’t wear them at an interview but after I get the job than I would wear them. LOL!

It’s just a feeling I get when I wear them – people always tend to notice them more than the traditional shorter to medium length necklaces that I wear. I always get compliments on them.

I am trying to broaden my personal taste and perspective on pieces that are truly unique, quirky, expressive, creative, upbeat and just a great sense of fun and whimsy.

I love this newsletter and I am a relatively new member and I so look forward to receiving them each month. They are inspirational, uplifting and very informative with wonderful ideas and projects to consider.

Thanks so much Rena!

Grace

Love this.

I’ve been in that same rut of making shorter necklaces. I’m going to try some long ones now. I have so many beads that arrived bigger than I expected, and this is a good way to use them up, I think! Having a variety of sizes available can only be a good thing!

A favorite necklace that I made for myself is one that is very long and can be doubled up to wear in a shorter style. I love reading all the comments….I’m feeling inspired to make something different this week!

I sell my jewelry so I make all different lengths, but when I make one for myself, I make it about 30″ to 35″ and usually with a 3″ pendant or “fringe”. I think it all depends on your size. As a big busted woman, I like mine long, but shorter people look better in shorter necklaces.

I love that length because I can wrap it 2 times as a necklace, knot it and leave it long or wrap it a few times as a big bracelet – which is also really popular now. Long necklaces are a lot of fun. I also have pendants that I can slide onto them when they doubled or they can float when it’s a bracelet.

Good luck to you!

Now I like my necklaces about 20″ long. I’ve started to make them at least 20″ and adjustable by adding a few links at the clasp end. I’ve had many customers request longer lengths. They look great on anyone but especially on taller, fuller figured ladies.

I think necklace length is really a personal preference – and no matter what the “official” length style currently is, there will always be folks who just prefer a specific length that works well for them.

However, the uber-long length that’s recently been in the spotlight has encouraged a lot of women to try longer necklaces for the first time.

I think there are customers for every length, really – and of course a person’s size, daily activities, and lifestyle can also affect their choices.

(Personally I tend to wear shorter necklaces, and like Tamara above, I often find that long ones catch or snag on things – or drag through the food on my plate! 🙂 )

And as Barbie mentioned above, you can always make long necklaces – so people could either wear them long, or double them to wear as a choker!

So go figure, I should start making my necklaces shorter only to find out everyone likes the longer ones better. Is it just me??
